The AF share celebrates 20 years
This year AF Gruppen celebrates 20 years of being listed on the stock exchange, and 20 years as the company with the highest return on the Oslo Stock Exchange.
8 September 1997 marked the start of AF's rally on the stock exchange . In the 20 years since, the AF share has been the share with the highest return on the Oslo Stock Exchange, both in the last 20 years and in the last 10 years
Over the last 20 years, the AF share has yielded a return of a huge 6,724%, including dividends. This corresponds to an average annual return of 24 per cent.
In comparison, the Oslo Stock Exchange's Main Index has risen by 315% over the same period, which corresponds to an average annual return of 7%.
AF Gruppen's management and owners have always wanted the employees to share in the growth. AF Gruppen's goal since the start has been that the employees should not only feel ownership of their company, but actually have ownership. The idea is
that when one owns something together, everyone will want to contribute to carry the load. It creates loyalty and commitment, which in turn results in the creation of greater value. This is an opportunity that many have taken – currently around 1,500 AF employees own shares in their workplace, which comprises 42 per cent of the company's almost 3,600 employees. AF employees own 17% of the company – assets amounting to more than NOK 2 billion.
“The employees are the company's key resource, and we believe that the value of the company is closely linked to their motivation and efforts. By inviting the employees to be shareholders through share and option programmes directed at all employees, we secure the basis for common goals among employees, the company and the company's owners,” says Sverre Hærem, CFO of AF Gruppen.
